History

House of God Pensacola is a part of The House of God Which is the Church of the Living God the Pillar and Ground of the Truth, without Controversy, Inc. Keith Dominion. The Church was established in 1903 by its founder Mother M. L. Tate.  Bishop R.W. Fletcher is the Chief Overseer and senior Bishop. House of God Pensacola is a part of the Alabama, Northwest Florida and Texas Diocese, where Bishop John Lott, Jr is the Diocese Prelate.

House of God Pensacola Band was started in 1948 in the home of Deaconess W M Spights. In 1949, the church members purchased a storefront building and relocated to 1300 W. Leonard Street.   It was in this location that Rev. Clarence McDougald  was appointed Pastor. After he relocated to Indiana, Elder V. A. Stinson served as the temporary pastor.  In 1953, the members purchased a building at 2909 Miller St. It was in this location that Elder Emma Gardner Hankerson was appointed pastor.  Elder Hankerson served until circa 1973. Rev. Ely Johnson served as interim pastor for a short time.

In 1974, the church relocated to 511 E. Gadsden St. where Elder Clarence Smith was later appointed Pastor.  Under his leadership, the church grew and made great contribution to the community. In 1999, the church purchased the land at 2851 N “E”’ St.  It is on this land that a new edifice and family life center was constructed.  The first service was held on Dec. 31, 2003.

Elder Clarence went home to be with The Lord in December 2007.  After his demise, Bishop John Lott, Jr. became the pastor. He served until June 2014. 

In 2014, Rev. Larry Roper was appointed Pastor.  Under his leadership, the church has grown and impacted the community in a number of ways.  It’s service includes feeding the homeless, providing clothes and blankets for the homeless, providing finance to help ministries that cater to the needs of the less fortunate, etc.  The Church has provided school supplies, a myriad of supplies to battered women and the homeless population as well as counseling for troubled youths and married couples.
